Children learn by touching, tasting, feeling, smelling, and listening. They love activities in the kitchen because they can use all their senses.
There are many ways to get kids involved in cooking. They can help prepare food and cook. Cooking with kids provides practical experience with many essential skills such as reading, following directions, and measuring. Getting involved in cooking helps your child to develop fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, and even early concepts of math and science. There are just so many great benefits to cooking with kids. Children will like to try new things when they have been involved in the cooking process. It is also a great way to introduce them to other countries and habits. Finally, cooking with kids is a great family pastime. It is an opportunity to meal plan, look for recipes and share ideas on why and how to make meals healthier for the whole family. So bring the kids into the kitchen!
Making Memories Cooking Workshop
Let’s make Chinese dumplings
In 2019 Making Memories is organizing Chinese Cooking Workshops for families. The first in this series is called the Humble Dumpling!
Dumpling recipes involve kneading, which is a great kitchen skill for young children to practice – helping them to build up their control and muscles, as well as encouraging them to connect with their food by making items from scratch. Cutting and folding of the dough are other great activities for young children. Get hands-on in the kitchen as you and your kids create these precious parcels of delight. Join us around the table for filling, folding and twisting before sitting down to enjoy the fruits of your labour in good company!
