The Harry Potter STEAMM Experience

May 11, 2018 3 Comments

It’s that time of year. Schools in Greece will soon be closed for summer. The countdown can begin. The reading logs have stopped coming home. Parents are frantically discussing end-of-year teacher gifts. My kids have begun the grand countdown to the Last Day of School. Summer is almost here and a long period (3 months in Greece!) of freedom is about to start. If you are a parent in Athens or if you are visiting this summer, you may want to consider sending your kids to a summer camp.

Today’s options for a summer camp are far more varied than you might remember from your own childhood. There are camps that focus on music and theater, arts and science, language, sports, circus themes, and computers. Summer camp can be one of the most rewarding, unforgettable experiences in a child’s life. Summer camp provides children with a community of caring mentors who provide experiential education that leads to self-respect and appreciation for life. All of the outcomes—friendships, overcoming challenges, staying healthy and building character— prepare them for bigger, brighter lives down the road. In addition to great friendships and enduring memories, many important life skills are learned at camp. I get a lot of requests from other parents regarding English language summer camps for their children in Athens. So I was happy to find out that activities platform Little City Spots has started listing them on their English page. One new addition to the summer camp list is the Harry Potter STEAMM Experience: Athens STEAMM camp for 3 – 6 years old.

The Harry Potter STEAMM Experience

Imagine a summer camp as a magical journey as wizards on board of The Hogwarts Express to visit the Hogwarts School of Wizardry. Explore the Leaky Cauldron for some Butter-Beer before embarking on a magical STEAMM filled summer adventure. All wizards will participate in a Potions 101 class, learn how to produce invisible messages, experience “Walking on Water”, create magnetic slime, extract their own DNA and much more. All of this while learning important scientific concepts such as chemiluminescence, Non-Newtonian fluid, magnetism, sublimation, and many other valuable scientific concepts. Throughout the summer, young scientists will discover and explore scientific phenomena through observation, experimentation, storytelling, and creative exploration.

The savvy scientists
In this summer camp, young scientists discover and explore scientific phenomena through observation, experimentation, storytelling, and creative play. Budding scientists learn about chemical reactions, magnetism, physics, biology, how the biology and how to form their own hypotheses.

Find out details, prices and everything else that you need to know at Little City Spots.

Awesome alchemists
For serious scientists, we lay the foundations of the scientific method as the children progress to more complex hands-on experiments. They learn to evaluate scientific evidence, form their own hypotheses, help design their own experiments and discuss their own conclusions; all while having fun!

Τhe Hygge House has donated their space at cost and has generously donated a healthy snack for each child including fresh fruit, yogurt and homemade cake.

For more information on the program for the 6 – 10 years old, click here.

All proceeds from the program will be donated to Love Without Borders Charity-For Refugees In Need as well as The Butterfly Children Charity (DEBRA).

Have a great summer!
